Abdominal procedures may involve liposuction, mini or full “tummy tuck” or abdominoplasty. Breasts are more affected if the Mom breast fed for an extended period of time. The abdomen often needs repair of stretched muscles “diastasis recti”, a common result of pregnancy, plus removal/tightening of stretched skin.
Breast and abdominal plastic surgery procedures are transformative procedures performed by FSPS member surgeons using the latest techniques and a personalized approach. If you are post-pregnancy, our board-certified surgeons offer expert care across Florida.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover restores breast volume lost by nursing and deflation by placing a breast implant, fat transfer, with or without lifting or reduction to correct unwanted droopiness or fullness. The nipple location is often moved higher and and the areola (pigmented area around the nipple) made smaller. For the tummy, liposuction alone may help or an abdominoplasty (“tummy tuck”) may be need. This removes extra skin and fat from the tummy and tightens stretched abdominal muscles for a smoother, toned midsection.
A combining surgery of the breasts and abdomen can be done if the Mom is in good health and at a good weight and willing to have both procedures at the same time. Otherwise, the procedure can be done in two smaller surgeries (called “staging”). Ask you board certified FSPS Plastic Surgeon which option is better for you. These procedures are performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia and typically take 4-6 hours. Techniques vary by patient. For both the breasts and abdomen, typically, the more loose skin, the longer the incisions.
Sometimes liposuction is performed at the same time for unwanted fat accumulations. The procedures are most safely performed under the care of an anesthesiologist or CRNA in an accredited surgical facility. Your surgeon may also suggest local anesthetic blocks that can dramatically improve you comfort during recovery.
