Dennis Hurwitz, M.D.

Dennis J. Hurwitz, MD, FACS is Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery Emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh, founder of the Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery and clinical associate of the Schuster Plastic Surgery in Bocca Raton.

A 1970 graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School, he completed training in General Surgery At the Dartmouth Medical Center and Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a Craniofacial Surgery fellowship under Fernando Ortiz-Monasterio, M.D. in 1977. Dr. Hurwitz founded the Craniofacial Surgery program at the University of Pittsburgh and is past medical director of the Cleft Palate/ Craniofacial Center and the UPMC Aesthetic Center.  Dr. Hurwitz has authored nearly 200 scientific publications including Total Body Lift in (2005) and Comprehensive Body Contouring: Theory and Practice (2016).

Following several innovations published in cleft, flap and vascular malformation surgery, Dr. Hurwitz over the past 27 years focused on body contouring surgery mostly after massive weight loss.  He conceived and taught Total Body Lift surgery, L Brachioplasty, Spiral and L-Thighplasty, transverse upper body lift with Spiral Flap reshaping of the breasts, Boomerang pattern correction of gynecomastia, Correction of saddle bag deformity, J Torsoplasty upper body lift with Spiral Flaps and Oblique Flankplasty with lipoabdominoplasty (OFLA). He has pioneered the Extended Vertical Facelift using the barbed suture cinching of the SMAS
