Thigh Lift
in Florida

Significant weight loss can contribute to loose skin (laxity) on the inner thigh. This can leave you with a saggy and wrinkled inner thigh. While liposuction can be used on many areas of the body, sometimes this is not enough to give a tight and smooth inner thigh area. This laxity can be just on the upper thigh area or go all the way down the inner leg to the knee. Your FSPS board certified plastic surgeon can perform a thighplasty, also known as a “thigh tuck” or “thigh lift” to improve this area of your body.

What is a Thighplasty?

A thighplasty removes extra skin and fat from the inner thigh area which can improve the front and back of the thigh, creating a smoother and tighter leg. It is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes two to four hours. The technique your surgeon uses is customized to you. It could be a small inner thigh lift or a longer, extended thigh lift which removes a large amount of skin all the way down the inner thigh. Generally, the more loose skin you have, the longer the incision to achieve your desired result. Sometimes liposuction is performed at the same time to improve the shape of either the front or the back of the thigh.. The procedure is most safely performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. Your surgeon may also suggest local anesthetic which can improve your comfort during healing.

Benefits of Thighplasty (Thigh lift)

  • Removal of loose, sagging skin
  • Stretch mark removal
  • Improved hygiene
  • Boost in body confidence and comfort in clothing
  • Long-lasting results when paired with a healthy lifestyle

Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

The best candidates are individuals in good overall health who have excess thigh skin and stubborn fat. Even with a good diet and exercise (which are vital to keep your results), surgery is often the best solution to these problems, particularly after weight loss. All the exercise in the world will not tighten skin.

Ideally, you should be at a stable, keepable weight. You should avoid smoking, vaping and nicotine prior to surgery.

Often these changes come after weight loss from either diet and exercise, medications like Ozempic or Wegovy, bariatric surgery (such as a gastric sleeve), or a combination of these. A visit with an FSPS member surgeon is the first step to understanding whether thighplasty (thigh tuck) is right for you.

The Procedure Process

Initial Consultation

Your surgeon will look at your anatomy, review your goals, and go over the options that are best for you. He or she will go over the details of the planned operation including risks, benefits, and alternatives and how you can work together to limit your risks and achieve or surpass your what you want.

Day of Surgery

The procedure is usually performed under general sleep medicine. Incisions are placed  within the groin creases, along the inner leg, sometimes as far down as the knee. The length and position of the cuts can be modified as you discuss the plan with your FSPS plastic surgeon. Sometimes, liposuction can be combined where needed.

Once completed, your surgeon will place you in compression garments and may choose to place a drain to remove extra fluid to expedite healing. This will all be done while under sleep medicine.

Immediate Aftercare

You’ll be monitored in a healing area and return home with compression garments and detailed aftercare instructions. Sometimes your surgeon may prefer an overnight stay.

Follow-Up Visits

Your Board Certified FSPS surgeon will guide your healing process and carefully monitor your progress with scheduled follow-ups. Post-operative care is an important part of healing and getting your best result.

Recovery and Aftercare

Initial rest time ranges from 1–2 weeks, with light activity encouraged as you heal. Most patients return to normal routines within 4–6 weeks. Swelling will gradually subside, and results continue to be improved for several months. Following your surgeon’s instructions is key to optimal healing.

Results: What to Expect

Patients usually notice a a lot of improvement in thigh shape shortly after surgery. Final results become more easy to see over 3–6 months as swelling fully resolves. The desired outcome is a natural, better shape with long-lasting benefits.
