Tummy Tuck
in Florida

A flatter, firmer abdomen is something desired by both men and women. Sometimes all of the sit-ups in the world can’t restore a tummy to a more youthful appearance, but an abdominoplasty can restore contour and confidence.  Also known as a “tummy tuck,” an abdominoplasty is a transformative procedure performed by FSPS member surgeons using the latest techniques and a personalized approach. Whether you’re post-pregnancy or post-weight loss, our board-certified surgeons offer expert care across Florida.

What is Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens weakened abdominal muscles for a smoother, toned midsection. It is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes two to four hours. Techniques vary by patient, and range include small (mini tummy tuck and endoscopic muscle repair), medium (standard tummy tuck), and more extensive (extended tummy tucks and fleur de lis tummy tucks which tighten the tummy in 2 directions).  Typically, the more loose skin, the longer the incision.

Sometimes liposuction is performed at the same time to improve the waistline.  The procedure is most safely performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility.  Your surgeon may also suggest local anesthetic blocks can dramatically improve you comfort during recovery.

Benefits of Abdominoplasty

  • Improved abdominal contour and posture
  • Removal of loose, sagging skin
  • Stretch mark removal
  • Repair of separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)
  • Boost in body confidence and comfort in clothing
  • Long-lasting results when paired with a healthy lifestyle

Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

The best candidates are individuals in good overall health who have excess abdominal skin, stubborn fat, and/or muscle separation. Even with a good diet and exercise (which are vital to maintain your results), surgery is often the best solution to these problems, particularly after pregnancy. All the exercise in the world won’t tighten skin.

Ideally, you should be at a stable, maintainable weight.  You should avoid smoking, vaping and nicotine prior to surgery.

Often these changes come after pregnancy. They can also come after weight loss from either diet and exercise, medications like Ozempic or Wegovy, bariatric surgery (such as a gastric sleeve), or a combination of these. A consultation with an FSPS member surgeon is the first step to understanding whether abdominoplasty is right for you.

The Procedure Process

Initial Consultation

Your surgeon will evaluate your anatomy, review your goals, and explain the options that are best for you.  He or she will explain the details of the planned operation including risks, benefits, and alternatives and how you can work together to limit your risks and achieve or surpass your desired results.

Day of Surgery

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are placed low on the abdomen, and the surgeon removes skin, tightens muscles, and contours the waistline. Often tummy tucks are done together with some liposuction.

Immediate Aftercare

You’ll be monitored in a recovery area and return home with compression garments and detailed aftercare instructions.  Sometimes your surgeon may prefer an over-night stay.

Follow-Up Visits

Your Board Certified FSPS surgeon will guide your healing process and carefully monitor your progress with scheduled follow-ups.  Post-operative care is an important part of recovery and getting your best result.

Recovery and Aftercare

Initial downtime ranges from 1–2 weeks, with light activity encouraged as you heal. Most patients return to normal routines within 4–6 weeks. Swelling will gradually subside, and results continue to refine for several months. Following your surgeon’s instructions is key to optimal healing.

Results: What to Expect

Patients typically notice a significant improvement in abdominal contour shortly after surgery. Final results—defined, flatter abdomen and improved waistline—become more visible over 3–6 months as swelling fully resolves. The desired outcome is a natural, enhanced silhouette with long-lasting benefits.
